About Canandaigua Excavation

A working excavation outfit based in Canandaigua, serving Ontario County, the Finger Lakes, and the Rochester area.

We're an excavation contractor, not a landscaping company that owns a mini excavator and not a highway outfit that'll fit your driveway in between bridge jobs. Residential and light-commercial dirt work is the whole business: site prep, driveways, drainage, foundations, septic, trenching, ponds, grading, walls, clearing, and demolition.

Our yard is in Canandaigua. Most of our work is within half an hour of it — the towns around Canandaigua Lake, the Bristol Hills, the farm country toward Geneva, and the Rochester suburbs from Victor to Henrietta. We go further for lakefront and larger projects, out to Keuka and Conesus and, by arrangement, toward Skaneateles.

How we work

Every job starts with a site visit and ends with a walk-through. In between, the rules are simple: 811 locate before every dig, erosion control before the first cut, grades checked with a laser, backfill in compacted lifts, and a written quote that says what's included so nobody's surprised. When the ground surprises us — a boulder, a spring, shale where the map said clay — we stop and talk to you before the meter runs.

Equipment

Compact and mid-size excavators, a tracked skid steer with grading, mulching, and auger attachments, a hydraulic breaker for rock, plate compactors, a rotary laser, and dump trucks for hauling. We size the machine to the site rather than bringing the biggest one we own.

Ask for a certificate of insurance before we start and we'll send it. We'd rather you ask.

How a job goes

Call or send the form

Tell us what you're trying to do and where. If you have a plan, a survey, or an engineer's drawing, even better.

Site visit

We walk the lot, look at access, slope, and drainage, and probe for rock where it's likely. Usually within a few days of your call.

Written quote

A clear number with the scope spelled out — what's included, what's hauled, what's restored. It holds unless the ground surprises us both.

811 and permits

We place the Dig Safely locate and handle the permits that fall to us. You'll know which ones are yours.

The work

Machines sized to the site, erosion control up before the first cut, grades checked with a laser, and a site you can walk when we leave.

Walk-through

We go over what was done, what to expect as backfill settles or seed comes in, and what to call us about if it doesn't.
